Epoxy Calculator

Estimate epoxy floor coating gallons or liters, kits, primer, topcoat, flakes, waste, and optional material cost.

This page is for epoxy floor coatings. Deep-pour tabletop resin and anchor epoxy use different calculations. For laminate, LVP, hardwood, or engineered flooring boxes, use the Flooring Calculator.

Include Primer

Turn on if your floor system uses a separate primer coat.

Include Topcoat

Turn on for a separate clear or protective topcoat.

Include Flakes

Turn on for decorative flake broadcast. Use your product coverage rate.

Use Epoxy Kit Size

Turn on if you want whole kit count from gallons or liters needed.

Formula Usedfloor_area = length x width; epoxy_needed = area x coats x (1 + waste_extra / 100) / coverage

This is an epoxy floor coating material estimate. Product labels, concrete porosity, preparation, and installer layout can change actual coverage.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01Pick Rectangle or Known Area.
  2. 02Enter the floor dimensions or the measured floor area.
  3. 03Enter the number of epoxy coats and the coverage rate from your product label.
  4. 04Add a waste/extra percentage for porous concrete, edges, and mixing loss.
  5. 05Turn on primer, topcoat, flakes, kit sizing, or cost only when they apply.

For irregular garage or floor shapes, calculate the area first with the Square Footage Calculator, then use Known Area here.

Understanding the math

Epoxy floor quantity depends on floor area, coat count, coverage rate, and waste/extra. Product labels should override any default coverage value.

floor_area = length x width
epoxy_needed = floor_area x coats x (1 + waste_extra_percent / 100) / coverage_rate
primer_needed = floor_area x primer_coats x (1 + waste_extra_percent / 100) / primer_coverage
topcoat_needed = floor_area x topcoat_coats x (1 + waste_extra_percent / 100) / topcoat_coverage
flakes_needed = floor_area / flake_coverage
kits_needed = ceiling(epoxy_needed / kit_size)
material_cost = active_material_quantities x entered_prices

Porous or rough concrete can use more product than smooth concrete. This calculator estimates materials only; professional quotes may also include grinding, repairs, moisture mitigation, removal, labor, and tax.

Frequently asked questions

How much epoxy do I need?

How much epoxy you need depends on floor area, number of coats, product coverage rate, concrete porosity, surface texture, and extra material for edges or mixing loss. Measure the floor area, choose the number of coats, enter the coverage rate from the product label, and add a waste/extra percentage. Primer, topcoat, flakes, and kit sizing are estimated separately when turned on.

How do I calculate epoxy coverage?

Use the coverage rate from the product label with the floor area and number of coats. Porous concrete, rough surfaces, and thicker application can reduce coverage.

How many sq ft will 1 gallon of epoxy cover?

It depends on the product and coating thickness. Many floor epoxy products list coverage in square feet per gallon, so use that label rate in the calculator.

How much epoxy for 100 sq ft?

Use 100 sq ft times the number of coats divided by the product coverage rate, then add waste/extra. At 250 sq ft per gallon for two coats, 100 sq ft needs about 0.8 gallons before waste/extra.

How much does epoxy flooring cost?

Material cost depends on gallons or kits needed, primer, topcoat, flakes, and local product prices. The optional cost section estimates material cost only, not labor or floor prep.

Can I use this for deep-pour or tabletop epoxy?

No. This calculator is for epoxy floor coatings based on area, coats, and coverage rate. Deep-pour and tabletop epoxy usually need volume and thickness calculations.

Can I use this calculator with metric measurements?

Yes. Use the Imperial/Metric toggle. Inputs, results, reference values, and examples follow the active unit system where applicable.
